Hi all, I am moving to Mexico and renting a flat soon. I was wondering where I can save my valuables (port, jewelry, etc.)? Do they have bank safe deposits or something similar in Mexico (or Puerta Vallarta to be exact)? Thank you.

After 24 years here I have never found one so I assume they do not exist. Sell your jelery make a copy of your port and put it way and do without a safe. You can buy one but if your are renting it will not be secure so forget about it.

If anyone runs across this post in the future, I found this company that has 5 locations in Mexico. Also, I read that Bancomer and Banamex banks offer safety deposit boxes at some of their locations.

Interlomas Mexico City
Andares Guadalajara
Punto Sur Jalisco
Midtown Jalisco
Marina Puerto Cancun

So unless you live close by these places , what is the point having to drive a couple of hours of more to get your jewelery.? Important documents is another things but what thieves are looking for is jewelery, computers, phones etc , things that can be sold or pawned off easily. Build a safe on your prperty if you must have one and be sure it is well hidden and the the employees do not know about it.

I had the same issue and ended up getting a solid safe at home instead. If you're keeping legal documents or valuables, and don't fully trust the local options, check out Best gun safe. They’re not just for guns—they've got different sizes that work well for storing ports, cash, or anything else you want to keep secure and nearby.

Forget about safes. If you want one buy one and get it installed or leave your valuables in your own country. A friend of mine has a cousin who is a wealthy judge.. He has major security, a body guard ,a safe, cameras etc..
A couple of guys entered the house disconnect the security sytem and proceeded to torture the wife to make her give the combination of the safe. The judge got lose grabbed a gun and shot one of the guys, the other one ran away. The wife is in the hospital and they moved out , the house is for sale.
Do you have valuables that you would be tortured or give up your life for?
That happened in a nice section of Guadalajara

a safe means you have valuables you want to protect so make sure employees do not know about it...I feel it makes you more of a target. You can have one of the piece of furniture made with secret drawers at the back it you do not have anything very bulky you want to keep safe. A port is valuable but a copy can be made in case it is lost and you can get another one easily so it is no super important, It can be hidden amongst books or other papers as well. The factura for the car, I feel is more important than the port. and of course cash or jewelry. After 25 years in Mexico I sold all my jewelry and gave it away. I keep no cash at home and hide papers in just regular box with other non important papers.
I have been broken into once. They obviously looked for jewelry, cash , cel phone tablets , laptops and ended up taking kitchen stuff and tools as I had nothing of what they were interested in. I have nice art and valuable objects but nothing you would know is valuable unless you knew about it so nothing was toucedh. Only stuff they could pawn off quickly.. No papers were found or looked for as far as I know.
