Hi! My name is Cristina. I currently live in Texas, my paternal grandparents were Italian citizens and I would like to begin the process of acquiring dual citizenship, with the intention of residing in Italy permanently not too far in the future. I would love to hear how others have started this process and any advice and or recommendations. I have heard that there are a lot of websites that offer services, charge a lot but don’t do much. Looking for advice!

Hi Nick,

I have photocopies marriage, military, and death records however I need to get a copy of his atto di nascita. I'm trying to avoid the exorbitant fees associated with using a service. That said, I may end up doing it all in Italy as I read it's much cheaper.

If all you need is one certificate and you know the dates etc just try writing a letter to the town ufficio anagrafe. You could even try an email first but in general Italian offices aren't great with that.

The fees for documents have gone up but it's still pocket change.

Hello, my name is Scott and my dog Bella living in the US presently. The plan for us is to move to Sicily within the next year. Looking to chat within someone who can give advice on the process. I have collected a lot of information but looking for someone who has actually gone through it.

Hello, my name is Iris (60), and my husband is Ken (59). I am an artist and educator, and Ken is a computer specialist. We are looking into moving to Italy. I want to be in an area with an active artist community. We are currently touring Italy. We have visited Torino, Cremona, Brecai, Florence and Prato. A town with a train station and near an airport is preferred. We are learning Italian. We are not old enough to retire completely, and we would still be able to work. I have a dual citizenship and speak English and German, but Ken does not. We will be bringing our lab mix and will also be looking for a dog-friendly area. So good food and wine, active living, an artist community, and an animal-friendly area. If you know such a perfect spot, please point us in that direction. Grazie mille
