Hi,
I'm brand new here and was hoping someone could help answer some questions I have on bring goods into Mexico without paying duty.
I'm moving to Mexico City next month on a temporary residents visa (already obtained) for atleast 2 years and would like to bring my household goods with me. I'll be flying in with 2 hold suitcases and 1 cabin bag which will contain all my belongings (nothing shipped). In my suitcases, I'd like to bring several different electronic music instuments (synthesizers etc) which value over £5000 in total.
After reading the import/duty rules, I see that only 2 instruments are exempt from duty, meaning I'm liable to pay excess duty fees on the rest (atleast £3000 worth of gear).
Instead, I will apply for a 'menaje de casa'. Does anyone one have experience with using a 'menaje de casa' to import goods by air in luggage (not shipped)? All the information online, that I can find, if advice for shipping items which is relavent. Will I need to arrange a customs broker? If so, what's the rough cost? Is this worth it or should I just pay duty?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
Thomas
